Hydroponics makes it possible to grow in harsh climates
Hydroponics is extremely valuable to the world because it allows you to grow in any temperature or any climate that you wish. A lot of you that live in moderate climates do not realize the full value of hydroponic systems. Often hydroponic systems are given a bad name because the media associated hydroponics with illegal plants; but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Hydroponics has been around for quite some time now and it makes it possible to grow plants in what would otherwise be very difficult or impossible situations due to extreme climates like the ones we have here in Alaska.
People like myself living in a remote part of Alaska can only grow plants with hydroponics if we want to be successful all year. There has to be a regular pattern during parts of the year with regular lights cycles to keep your plants from stressing out due to irregular Sun conditions. People living in Alaska are not able to grow like people can in moderate climates. We have a bizarre hours they we have to deal with as well as the cold weather on the winter I. Obviously we can’t grow plants in snow and ice and that’s where hydroponics comes along to help people like myself to keep it growing in Alaska; the great white north.
If you are a resident of Alaska and wish to have your own year-round garden like me you really have no choice but to use a hydroponics is. A hydroponics system basically simulates nature by using light to simulate the sun and instead of soil you feed your plants with a mixture of water and nutrients. The beautiful thing about hydroponics is you have complete control over your garden. You are not reliant upon the Sun and the time that the sun rises and sets. With hydroponics you can use a timer to simply turn your lights on and off whenever you want. Now you can simulate various seasons in the world by just simply turning your lights on or off at the proper time to induce flowering when you are ready.
Also because you growing indoors you can use a heater or air conditioners to keep that temperature level write where you need it for your plants to be in the optimal temperature range. You have to worry about your plants in an outside garden growing slower because of the cold weather outside. When you grow your plants indoors with hydroponics you now can make the temperature perfect for your plants so that they can grow them really fast and really strong.
Plants grown in hydroponics will often grow way faster than their counterparts in soil. So living here in Alaska where it’s extremely cold and wet we are forced to grow with hydroponics inside, but it is not really a trade-off. The reason for this is our plants grow much faster in hydroponics than they would in soil and often is even less maintenance because the plants to do so well in hydroponics. I think hydroponics is amazing technology for anyone to explore that wants to enjoy growing their own fresh fruits and vegetables at home, and hydroponics is certainly very easy. I would recommend taking a look at some videos on the Homegrown Hydroponics website if you really want to understand what hydroponics is, and maybe even think about going with one of their really nice grow boxes like I did.
